Hi everyone, Rev Richard Lawrence and I chat live-on-air tomorrow night (April 25) at 9.00 PM, both in Facebook and YouTube about when the whole church was more active in ecological concern and environmental issues. We recorded a short video to watch and we will both be in the Facebook chat with additional comments. You are welcome to join in via this link. The video and live chat will be curated in kiwiconnexion Green Church Aotearoa Group as we build a couple of simple strategies for church engagement.

Here's a great read on why fighting climate change is not the game-changer it should be. As World Council of Churches noted in its reports two decades ago, human pollution of local environments is where the focus needs to be. But is it too late? Read more.

Interesting read, David. There are some good insights despite designating anthropocene as the sole cause of climate change. While such a view point is widely debated by various philosophers (Rivak Weinberg Colin Cremin, McKenzie Wark, Slavoj Zizek) it is indeed incredible to imagine that humanity is capable of influencing all balance of life on earth.

The concern for me is how the churches can respond positively. What has to change for our institution to make a difference? I think Wesley's insights into the nature of stewardship can change individual thinking. But also congregations need to be on board with some science and some history. Guess this looks a bit dated but, back in the day, I argued for embracing stewardship of resources in the video John Wesley's Methodists investigate the age of the anthropocene.

A very interesting refocus of a background issue to the forefront of the challenges facing humanity and planet earth.
