Two readings, one a very short poem in Hermann Hesse's Glass Bead Game, the other a poem, by Joseph von Eichendorff. Heidi Wilson has done the translations.
The latter was chosen by Richard Strauss, along with three other Hesse poems, Four Last Songs. He wrote the music in 1948 and died the following year.
Kiri Te Kanawa is often associated with this masterwork.
