Emily Dickinson 1830-86

An ignorance a Sunset
Confer upon the Eye—
Of Territory—Color —
Circumference— Decay—

Its Amber Revelation
Exhilirate—Debase—
Omnipotence’ inspection
Of Our inferior face—

And when the solemn features
Confirm— in Victory—
We start—as if detected
In Immortality—
An angel is everywhere

The spelling, grammar, and sentence construction is the author's own: it fits the mood she wants to create, the idea she is trying to convey. Matching my prints to that very personal, impressionistic text involves equally subjective, idiosyncratic  judgments. I attempt to work with the text just using a key word or two, trying to sense how the material, the copper plate will form the image.

Kiwiconnexion art class members and four from the Trinity-at-Waiake congregation were involved in analysing the poem and choosing the print sequence for the upcoming video.

The image at the right is how the print initially sat on the paper, ie a scan of the entire print. It was latter trimmed to match paper length-width ratio to the copper plate ratio. The variable edition 1-14 is signed with the assigned line of the poem.

Similar examples of how the print is placed on the paper are also shown  on pages 2 and 3.
